Our Summer with Osmo

BYJU'S Magic Workbooks: Disney, Grade 1 Workbook Bundle

Build your child’s math, language, and reading skills with interactive Magic Workbooks that provide real-time feedback every step of the way. Plus, 2 yr premium access to guided learning adventures featuring beloved Disney & Pixar characters through our BYJU’S Learning App featuring Disney.

We have really enjoyed the Osmo Byju's Learning Featuring Disney so far. We are in volume one of each of the Math and Language & Reading books. I love how Lylelynn is enjoying the books and her excitement to say “one more!” after each page that we do.

The app is very responsive and only two times did we have an issues with it not picking up her answer. Both times it was due to her making her circles around the words too small. Once she made it bigger the camera picked it up right away.

The use of Disney characters was a genius idea and defiantly want to high five the one that decided to not only use them but to change the theme each page. The kids help the different characters solve different problems and makes it fun in the process.

Osmo Grade Level 1 Magic Workbooks

Language Arts

The Level 1 goes over Beginning, Middle and End Consonant sounds all the way too the Level 5 book that goes over Adjective-noun pairs, Articles, Prepositions, Forms of verbs, Subject-verb agreement.

My favorite part, though there are so many, is that the camera picks up what they are coloring as they color. The idea of putting art with the pages wasn’t needed but a AMAZING plus to these books.

Math

Math Level 1 covers Number sense, Comparing numbers, Arranging numbers, Odd and Even numbers. Level 3 covers Spatial understanding, 2D and 3D shapes, Line of symmetry, Number patterns, Time and Money and Calendar.

Lylelynn LOVES the mazes and I really like how right now the mazes are ascending and descending numbers to really make sure she knows the order.

math with Osmo for grade levels Pre-K to 3rd Grade

Another great feature that I love is that there is an app version and that you don’t even need the books with you while on the go to still learn. With video lessons, activities and quizzes this curriculum really has been amazing so far. I’m excited to get the the last levels of both and come back to update this review.

Reading Adventures

As you know dyslexia is high in our family and learning to read in general is challenging for all kids on so many levels. When I learned that Osmo had a reading program that was multi sensory like their genius kits I had to give it a try. I’m SO glad we did.

We are on week five (I’ll keep you updated) but so far it’s been so good! It’s helping Lylelynn recognize letters, sounds and learning to read through following along and inactive games. Plus a magic wand to point with! Who doesn’t want a magic wand?!

I love that there are so many levels and book options and I definitely recommend giving reading adventures a look and really love the idea of a monthly subscription with new books each month! What a fun way for our kids to get mail and also renewing that joy of reading as new adventures come. I’m looking forward to the future books myself.

learning how to read

These are the three levels that we have at this time. Level 1 (pup and frog), Level 2 (girl and dog) and New Reader (boy and pig).

Osmo learning for the summer

I truly love and use each of our Osmo Kits and find that they are great add ons to our school year, but beyond perfect for summer learning when you want to keep skills up or refine those skills before the new year starts.

I do like that if you don’t want the full bundle of the Magic Workbooks you can buy them one at a time. I think I’m going to get a level 1 Prek for Otto and let him work through it this next year.

What learning looks like for your child's level

So how do I use Osmo? Well, I’m homeschooling two kids and have a toddler. What I have learned, at least for our kids, is what from 6:30am-11:30am they are ALL about learning. After that time they are VERY done. I also noticed if we have a schedule then all of us, yes me too, get everything done. But a break of any kind makes it sooo much harder to come back to that “learning time”.

There are moments when I need one on one time with one kiddo, but I don’t want the other to go and do whatever they want. Those are the times that Osmo has been an amazing addition! They can have time on Osmo and feel as if they are playing (and they are) but they are also learning! And I see a difference.

Axle’s mental math has gotten so much better (genius kit), Otto is problem solving more then ever (little genius kit) and Lylelynn is really getting the hang of the different letters, their sounds and how they make words (reading adventures). All during their time with Osmo.

I definitely recommend giving reading adventures a look and really love the idea of a monthly subscription with new books each month! What a fun way for our kids to get mail and also renewing that joy of reading as new adventures come. I’m looking forward to the future books myself.
