Lumi Keys and Kano Headphones - Learning to play the Piano
We are back with Kano, who introduced us to Lumi and I’ve got to say these two together is our current favorite duo.
So let’s get started with breaking down each of their product is and how it has changed our lives these past few weeks.
Let’s dive into Lumi as we really dig into what all these Keys and App can do.
The biggest part for me over all is how much Lumi truly teaches you how to play the piano. It’s not just a game, its the real deal. From where to place your fingers, to how to read music and all the different types of music you can learn.
I’m so impressed with how Axle (and soon Lylelynn and maybe even myself) is picking up the proper way to play while having a blast and not fully realizing how much he is picking up. I’m already seeing a difference in just a few sessions.
The app really gives me that guitar hero vibe but I know in classes to come it will show even more. Click through below to see different ways it teaches from games, to showing placements and using the rainbow keys to learn.
Another feature I’m loving is the rainbow keys.
To teach the finger placement and how each key sounds and has a different job, Lumi Keys lights each key with a different color. This is a great way for the student to learn what key to play and gets their brain to start remembering both order and sound. Plus, lets face it, rainbow keys are SO FUN!
The other day Axle said “Dad listen! It’s playing the song you play to put us to sleep!”
Cody has a habit of playing classical music as the kids wind down to go to sleep. Cody listened to him play and smiled big saying “YES! Thats Beethoven”. I love that they had that moment. The App that comes with learning from Lumi has 500 Songs from pop to classical, interactive Lessons in bite-sized films, and Exercises that reinforce your skills. You get to decided where to start learning by picking what lessons you want to do out of the different options. I love that it is all at your own speed.
More about Lumi
Fresnel lens-inspired design
A Fresnel lens, used to magnify light in lighthouses, is flat on one side and ridged on the other. LUMI brings the design to a keyboard for the first time.
Brightkey technology
Groundbreaking Brightkey technology enables RGB (Red-Green-Blue) light to shine from the top to the tip of each of LUMI's key.
DS 5.5-sized keys
Keys are custom sized at 5.5 on the Donison-Steinbuhler scale. Slightly narrower than a standard keyboard's keys, they are more conveniently sized for average human hands.
DNA connectors
ROLI pioneered magnetic DNA connectors for the Lightpad Block. Now on LUMI Keys, they make the keyboard modular and easily expandable just by snapping two LUMIs together.
Deep hardware-software integration
LUMI Keys and the LUMI app are designed from the ground up to integrate, from sound to interactive videos. Bluetooth enables seamless hardware-software connectivity in real time.
What I love the most about these headphones is that they have the ability to plug in OR hook up to your phone/ipad through bluetooth.
Axle has a hard time keeping focused and I honestly don’t blame him with two younger siblings and an active world all around. These headphones have helped him listen better and stay focused as he uses them both with the Lumi Keys and listen to music while doing school. I’m pretty sure they will join many more situations in the future as they are used more.

My Last Thoughts
Then, above all, This is PERFECT for those of us not yet doing in person classes and lessons. It’s better then a zoom class. The Lumi app, Keys and Kano headphones are made for the right now at your own pace learner while that are having a BLAST! This duo is SO perfect for both kids and adults.
I’m going to share some videos in our story highlights on our Instagram HERE also so that you can go and see up close and personal. While also following our journey as I add more the further that Axle learns.
To be able to go outside, to car, in our living room, kitchen, on a hike or pretty much any where we go and still be able to have us lesson available is perfection. It allows for freedom in learning and makes the lessons work teach even as the aren’t forced with having to do them at one time of the day, once a week, with a teacher. The app is interactive and Axle is constantly asking when he can do another. It’s also easier on me as we never know what the day will bring and both the Lumi Keys and Kano Headphones are lightweight and easy to pack up and take them on the go. I can totally see him playing on this once I have more in person meetings or future doctor visits.
As you can tell I’m pretty much obsessed with this collaboration and all the possibilities that it give us and our kids to learn.
